Are there really benefits to drinking green tea?

is it worth swapping your english breakfast in the morning for a cup of the green stuff we wonder..

We all love a cup of tea, but lets face it, green tea will rarely (never) be our first choice. But you’ve read a lot of articles and blogs about its weight loss qualities and other health benefits and you’re wondering whether a change to your morning routine might be worth it…

Well here is what we’ve found out for you.

Weight loss?

Well, if you’ve ever looked at the ingredients of any ‘fat burning’ supplements in health food shops, it’s very likely they will contain green tea extract.

This is because it has been proven to increase fat burning and boost the metabolic rate in us humans. This research finding comes from several studies conducted by the American Physiology Society, very official.

Cancer Preventing?

This one is interesting and even if you don’t particularly like green tea, it might be worth suffering a cup a day if this is true. Again, this one has a lot of research to back it up but is also inconclusive.

The crux of this point is, green tea is full of antioxidants. It is well known that oxidant damage contributes to the development of cancer. So, filling your body with as many ‘anti’ oxidants as possible can only be a good thing. Right?

Brain Protecting?

Green tea may protect your brain in old age. Once again, the scientists and doctors have been busy and have conducted another of studies that suggest that green tea can protect the brain. The bioactive (very sciencey) compounds in green tea can have various protective effects on neurons which may reduce the risk of both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

So there you have it. Let’s all get our green tea supplies stock up.
